What is a Senior Move Manager?
A Senior Move Manager is a professional who specializes in assisting older adults and their families with the emotional and physical aspects of relocation. Many Senior Move Managers have backgrounds in gerontology, social work, health care, nursing and psychology. All share a commitment to working with seniors and a desire to do meaningful work.
Although specific services may vary, most Senior Move Managers can help with some or all of the following: - Developing an overall move plan
- Organizing, sorting and downsizing
- Customize floor plans
- Arranging for the profitable disposal of unwanted items through auction, estate sale, buy-out, movers consignment, donation or a combination of the above
- Interviewing, scheduling & overseeing
- Arranging shipments and storage
- Unpacking & setting up a new home
- Related services such as cleaning, waste removal, shopping, senior escort, assisting with selection of a realtor & helping prepare the house to be sold

Why is Senior Move Management Needed?
Most older adults making a transition have not moved in 30, 40 or 50 years and need to downsize considerably. The organizational and physical tasks associated with the planning and implementing such a move can be overwhelming.
Family and friends often want to help, but there may be barriers. Adult children may be sandwiched between their parents, their careers and their own family obligations. For family members living far away, the barriers may be geographic. Some seniors have no surviving children, or their children may be seniors themselves. If illness or death precipitated the move, the family may already be drained both emotionally and physically.
People 85 and above are the fastest growing segment of the US population. At the same time, social challenges such as more women working full time have made it increasingly difficult for family caregivers to provide all the support needed for these transitions.
Benefits of a Senior Move Manager- Because they focus on the move process, Senior Move Managers have significant expertise in resources and approaches that save time and money, reduce stress and produce quality results.
